Keep Texas Beautiful and Don’t mess with Texas® Launch Art Contest for Texas Students

March 05, 2014

AUSTIN — Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Don’t mess with Texas program are inviting students across the state to get creative about litter prevention. In an effort to promote positive litter habits among young Texans, the organizations partnered to launch the first Don’t mess with Texas Elementary School Art Contest.

The Don’t mess with Texas Elementary School Art Contest began on February 20, 2014, and all entries must be submitted by April 18, 2014. It is open to all Texas elementary school students enrolled in kindergarten through 5th grade. The contest is sponsored by H-E-B and Central Market, and students can submit artwork that promotes the Don’t mess with Texas and/or Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention slogans in order to encourage the protection of our Texas roadways and environment. The purpose of the contest is to encourage our future leaders to not litter and keep Texas beautiful.

Students who create the top 12 winning designs will have their artwork assigned to a month and placed in the 2015 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Each will also win an ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. One student winner’s artwork, chosen from the 12 winning designs, will be featured on the calendar cover.

Teachers representing students who produce the top 12 designs will win a $100 H-E-B and Central Market gift card.

“We know that litter habits start early,” said Cathie Gail, Executive Director, Keep Texas Beautiful. “This contest is a fun way to celebrate the creativity of our state’s next generation of leaders, while encouraging positive habits at a young age and preservation of our highways and environment.”

All student winners will be showcased on the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and at the 2014 Keep Texas Beautiful Annual Conference.
